The College of Education is one of the most renowned colleges at Sangmyung
University. Throughout Sangmyung's development, the College of Education has
been a flagship of the institution. Much of Sangmyung's curriculum has been built
around it.
With her eye firmly on the nation's future, Sang-Myung Bae, the founder of
Sangmyung University, established the College of Education based on her
philosophy of education. For the past 30 years, the College of Education has
continued to expand and is today the most renowned college at the University. |
The College of Education began with three departments: Home Economics, Fine Arts, and Physical Education. Since then,
it has changed with the times, adding the Department of Korean Education and the Department of Foreign Language
Education in December 1967. Shortly thereafter, it added the Departments of Music Education, Crafts, and Social Studies
Education.
During this period, the Department of Foreign Language Education had three majors: English, Japanese, and French; Social
Studies Education had two majors in Geography and History; and Science Education had three majors in Mathematics,
Chemistry, and Biology; and Commerce Education was also established.
In October 1982 and September 1983, Sangmyung University underwent two major reorganization efforts from which
emerged the Division of Education. By March 1987, the Division of Education became a college.
In 1999, the Department of Home Economics Education was reorganized and became the Division of Human Environmental
Sciences, now attached to the College of Natural Sciences.
By 2004, the College of Education had over 240 students and comprised the Departments of Korean Education, English
Education, French Education, Japanese Education, and Mathematics Education. |
